Grindr Announces ‘Best of Awards’ for 2014

Grindr 01Revealing Top Gay Icons and Moments of the Year

Grindr, the leading all-male geo-social networking app, surveyed its extensive user base to reveal this year’s ‘Best of Awards.’ Grindr users from the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia weighed in on everything from their favourite song, television show and movie, to the gay icon of the year and the hottest trends. Grindr guys were also surveyed on their predictions for next year on topics, such as 2015’s biggest celebrity train wreck, the next celebrity to come out of the closet and predictions for the top headline.

“For three years now, we’ve released our Grindr ‘Best of Awards’ and it’s gratifying to celebrate the influence and progress of gay culture in mainstream media,” said Grindr founder and CEO Joel Simkhai. “This year, we continue to see more artists and notable figures come out, and more variety and complexity of gay characters in roles across TV and film. It’s always fascinating to poll our Grindr guys on the biggest highlights of the year and it looks like 2014 was a good year for Hillary Clinton, Nick Jonas and Zac Efron – all making our list for the first time ever.”

After his hit TV show wrapped this year, winning a Tony and booked to host the Oscars in 2015, Neil Patrick Harris was voted as the gay icon of 2014 for the second year in a row by Grindr users. In addition, last year Justin Bieber was voted as the next celebrity train wreck, and it looks like Grindr guys have their finger on the pulse of pop culture because his arrest was voted as 2014’s biggest social blunder. This means, according to users, 2015 will be a big year for Ryan Seacrest, “Kimye” and Hillary Clinton. Only time will tell, but if the last three years of Grindr’s ‘Best of Awards’ are any indication, some of these predictions will likely come true. More than 1,100 Grindr users casted their votes between November 21 and December 1, 2014 for the ‘Best of Awards.’ On a daily basis, approximately 1.6 million average active Grindr users log on to the app and exchange millions of chat messages and photos to one another.
