Film Review – Pedro’s So Excited

I’m So Excited (15)
Director: Pedro Almodovar
Starring: Antonio de la Torre, Hugo Silva, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Laya Marti, Javier Camara
Opens UK – 4th May

Spanish legend Pedro Almodovar alienates mainstream audiences and will disappoint many film critics with his latest film about trolley dollies. That said, with I’m So Excited he has created a camp masterpiece which tickled me pink. I guess I am the niche target audience this was made for.

The plot is pretty thin – the airline crew and business class (economy has been doped with sleeping pills) of a doomed plane heading to Mexico City look to forget the anguish of the moment and face the greatest danger, which we carry within ourselves.

This kinky effort is a throwback to the director’s earlier films (Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!) but it’s a bumpy ride full of binge-drinking, pill-popping, confessions, revelations and blowjobs in the cockpit. Worth a look and probably best served with a Valencia Cocktail spiked with mescaline.

By the way Antonio Banderas and Penelope Cruz have cameos sharing their first on screen scene together. Also noteworthy is the casting of the gorgeous Miguel Angel Silvestre – pictured here. You’re welcome.
