Radical set design duo Block9 are returning to Glastonbury Festival in 2013 to host another apocalyptic spectacle catering to a gay and mixed crowd. Block9’s field is a late night wonderland of heavyweight sound systems, underground nightclubs, huge artworks and some extremely alternative performance, including a brand new stage.
The NYC Downlow was created by Block9 for Glastonbury 2007 as an answer to a gaping hole in the British festival scene; the absence of UK gay festival venues. In this film-set replica of a ruined NYC tenement, the murky homo fantasies of The Downlow crew fuse to resurrect New York’s golden age. The exposed first floor apartment is an outdoor music and performance stage, playing host to the UK’s finest alternative cabaret stars.
Celebrating seven years of mayhem, Block9’s legendary NYC Downlow returns in 2013 bigger and badder (and spacier!) than ever before. An international line-up of exceptional DJ’s provide the soundtrack – KERRI CHANDLER (New Jersey), ROBERT OWENS (Chicago), HORSEMEAT DISCO and MAURICE FULTON (UK) & MY LOVE IS UNDERGROUND (Paris) – alongside Downlow family residents. Expect the finest disco, soul, funk and vintage house all night, every night.
