Northern Pride
On Saturday 21st July, Northern Pride celebrated their fifth birthday with their event ‘Northern Pride Presents Newcastle Pride.’ The event, which had faced some controversy just a week before the event, when the location had to be moved to Exhibition Park after reports of poor weather expected for the weekend of the event. The Leader of Newcastle City Council, Nick Forbes opened the event as 23,000 people turned up in the park to party from 1pm until 6pm.
The fantastic crowd enjoyed entertainment in the sun from Northern Proud Voices, Scooch, Elle Diva, Sam Dickinson, Totally Gaga, Diva Fever, Horse, Cheeky Girls, Kelly Wilde and Sonia. Not forgetting that hosting the event, for the fifth year, was the fabulous star of Boulevard Newcastle… Miss Rory.

Sunderland Pride Returns for Second Year
The team behind the planning of Sunderland Pride will return this year to celebrate LGBT life within Wearside on Sunday 23rd September. Last year’s event, the first of its kind for the City, attracted almost 3000 people and organisers hope to attract even larger numbers year on year. Topping the bill of entertainment this year include Miss Rory, an award winning Lady GaGa tribute act, who has previously been a hit at Pride events around the country. Adding to the tribute act line-up, Envy, Jade Sanders, performing as Jessie J and The Steps Experience. Sensational soul artist Sam Dickinson, while hotly tipped new boy-band Rewind will also make an appearance. Finally Miss Trixie, a host of last year’s pride, will perform cabaret as the main stage will be tied together by hosts Lee Finan, known for his work on numerous radio stations across the UK, and North East drag sensations Miss Lucy and Ophelia Balls.
The event starts at noon, at the Civic Centre with the Pride March through the City, with entertainment from 1pm in Park Lane, City Centre. For more details visit www.sunderlandpride.co.uk
