Marauders beat the Romans
The Yorkshire Tournament, an annual footballing event for gay football clubs from across the UK, has been won by Mersey Marauders, who overcame the London Romans in a keenly contested final at Goals in Leeds.
The all-day event was keenly contested by 20 teams, most of whom had enjoyed themselves thoroughly on the Leeds gay scene the previous night – and in some cases you could tell! Despite this, the first teams kicked off at the unearthly hour of 10.30am in a series of play-off matches that saw some skilful dribbling and the occasional lovely tackle. Supporters and players alike revelled in the friendly atmosphere the event generated and are already planning for next year’s contest.
If you would like play for a gay football team there are many around the country who are always keen to encourage new members.
