‘Condom Week’
Terrence Higgins Trust has launched Condom Week, which aims to increase condom usage in men who have sex with men (MSM), with an online ‘Fits Me Quiz’ that pairs men with their perfect prophylactic.
The quiz is launched as an online survey of almost 500 men (466) reveals that:
- More and two thirds (66.8 per cent) never experiment with different condom sizes
- Despite almost half (44.42 per cent) finding condoms uncomfortable
Cary James, Terrence Higgins Trust, Head of Health Promotion, said: “The results suggest that most guys probably spend more time thinking about their wardrobe than their condom choice – but the right condom fit will feel much better than any pair of jeans. Using the right condom not only increases pleasure, but also reduces the chance of it breaking or slipping off during sex.
“The days of condoms being one size fits all are well and truly behind us, and we want everyone to feel the difference using the right condom can make. The ‘Fits Me’ tool not only helps people find the right condom but also gives them the change try those condoms either for free or at a discounted price.”
The latest figures published from Public Health England (PHE) show there were 439,243 sexually transmitted infections (STIs) reported in England in 2014.
Whether its finding a larger or smaller condom, or one that offers more sensation, or even latex free, the Condom Week ‘Fits Me’ quiz will pair men with the perfect match, which is then sent straight to their home, free of charge.
Condom Week is part of HIV Prevention England’s It Starts With Me campaign, which launched in April 2013, and is co-ordinated by Terrence Higgins Trust, funded by Public Health England.
The campaign speaks frankly about the importance of HIV testing and using condoms.
