Frank Music

Let’s be Frank

Summer 2011 and Frankmusik is back in London. He’s got a tan, a lovely new haircut, and an album that’s about to steal pop back.

Last time we saw Frank he had just played a sold out show at KOKO, Camden. His debut album had gone Top 15, and he’d been producing songs for the likes of Tinchy Stryder and Sky Ferreira. Pop’s red carpet was laid out expectantly, but Frank ran off in the other direction. Unshackling himself from the music-industry machinery, he jumped on a plane to California. Knowing no one there, and without so much as an address to write on his green card, he hoped he could “set the reset button” on his career and work out what to do next.

Now he’s back with a brand new and very catchy single ‘We Only Do It In The AM’, a collaboration with the Far East Movement, and an album on the way. With all this going on, Ryan Houston caught up with him to find out what he has to offer fans in the coming months.

Where have you been for the past year?

It’s been a very busy year I’ve been writing and producing my latest album in Los Angeles. I also dabbled around a bit in Spain but have recently returned to London to do some single and upcoming album promo!

What can fans expect from you in the coming months?

I have created an album full of collaborations from Cherry Tree Records (my US label) and also delivered a record that I feel will reach out to a lot more people. Songs like ‘Do It In The AM’ are just up front party songs with party monsters The Far Eat Movement contributing a wicked party verse for it. To songs like ‘No ID’ featuring the fresh new talent of Colette Carr. It’s just an amazing journey documenting my creative path I have put myself on since living in America.

You’ve teamed up with Far East Movement for this venture, how do you feel about working with another act to produce a single?

I’m always excited about collaborating! It’s the best feeling sharing the final result with other creative minds.

Is there a tour planned?

I really want to tour the US and Europe as soon as possible but it is a really busy time for me at the minute, hopefully my fans can wait a little bit longer for the tour.
